Yep Its That Free Genealogy Thing AGAIN!

A few days ago here on Genealogy Frame of Mind I did an entry on the idea that all genealogy should be free.  I'm pretty much a live & let live type person.  I don't believe in shoving my anything down your anything, its your life and you should live it the way you want to live.  BUT..  yeah you knew this was coming right?

The other day I was having a conversation with this person and that person stated that they were irritated because a library wanted $2 for an obituary copy.  This same person later complained that they didn't have some information from this certain library because the library wouldn't provide it to them without cost.  Then the following statement followed...

"I don't spend money on genealogy."

Hang on a second.  So you want to sit back and let everyone get this for you, get that for you, but you don't want to pay for ANYTHING?  So all of us are supposed to just step up and spend our time & resources to help you because you don't pay for genealogy?  Excuse me?  So if I travel to this library where you want information I'm supposed to make copies and give them to you?  So it's okay for me to spend my money on YOUR genealogy but you won't?  Excuse me but there's something wrong with this!

If you haven't gotten it by now - your attitude isn't impressive. In fact its downright selfish.

Enough said.

Happy Researching!

Grrr.... Actually, $2 for an obituary copy is pretty cheap. I have benefited from some outstanding assistance at several libraries ... can't believe people have to be so cheap.

Thanks Greta for the comment. I was just so aggrevated with the idea that I had to vent some how... I'm pretty picky about how I spend my $$$, but I don't expect anyone else to pay for my hobby.
Have a good one!
