My Way Or The Highway...

How many times in your life have you heard that statement?  Usually made by persons who see no gray, they truly believe that the way they do things is the only way to do things.  I try very hard to avoid persons with that mind set.  Often its never a spoken statement, its more of an implied, very strongly implied statement.

I've seen people leave churches over attitudes like that.  Not that any genealogists would ever have that frame of mind. Or do they?

When I speak, questions arise about software or how to do this or that.  Alot of questions on software, on sourcing on different topics.  I personally don't feel its my place to endorse any piece of software.  I'm not saying I don't have my own personal favorite or anything, but I think you should try them out, download the trial versions and figure out what works for you.  I know what I'd like to say when asked but I don't.

It's the same way with sourcing and how things are recorded in the software.  Many times people ask about sourcing and how detailed to be,  how much time to devote to this or that.  I know what I'd like to say, but I don't.  At some point I figure people are old enough that if you point them in a general direction they "should" be able to figure it out.  Some do, some don't.  But that's their choice.

There are truly only a few things in life that deserve the "my way or the highway" thing.  I don't think genealogy is one of them.  Life really is too short for that sort of nonsense.  I say find a way that works for you (NOT CLICK & CLAIM!) and then kick backsides with it.  And for those of you with that "my way or the highway" thing.  I suggest you take a step back and rethink the way you are behaving.  It really isn't the way to make friends or influence people.   'nuff said.

Happy Researching!
