Wedding Wednesday - A 50th Wedding Anniversary Celebration

 Golden Wedding

Fifty years ago, October 32, 1863, Lewis H. Zehring and Miss Elizabeth Gebhart, daughter of Emanuel Gebhart, were united in marriage by Rev. C. Albrecht.  For a half century they have resided in Miamisburg, excepting a brief period, when they resided in the country near town.

Squire Zehring is one of the best known men in the county, and has always been active in the life of the community.  For over thirty years he served as justice of the peace, and for over forty years has been a notary public.  He served three years as county commissioner.  He is still a director in the Mutal Building Association, in which he was secretary.  For ten years he was mayor of Miamisburg, and is now a member of the Board of Education, and a cemetery trustee.  Industrious, genial and faithful, Squire Zehring counts his friends by hundreds, and though past three score and ten, is still a young man in thought and action.

Handsome invitations have been issued to many friends for a reception at the Zehring home on Linden avenue this afternoon and evening, when an opportunity will be afforded to extend congratulations and best wishes to the happy couple, who have enjoyed fifty years of life in unbroken wedlock.

Their two daughters, Dr. Blanche Zehring of Wells College New York, and Mrs. Laura Zehring Dosch of Elizabeth, N. J., are both at home visiting with their parents for the happy anniversary.

Progress... At Least I think So

Been working on quite a few projects for the past few weeks.  The marriage record searches continue, I figured the other day I've added about 300 marriage dates, alot of them in Georgia marriage records - most of them from the Georgia Virtual Vault.  Bouncing around quite a bit in there also digging around for death records and pension records.  Sort of one stop shopping for Georgia records.

The other place I've been digging for marriage records is of course, Family Search, more one stop shopping once you figure out how to get around.  Much success there as well, more on Ohio than Georgia here.

The largest progress is on the data entry front - I've completed the entry on the Medina County, Ohio obituaries I pulled there.  I don't recall the total number I pulled but they are all pulled and typed in.  Some even hit the scanner for linking as well.  On to the Miamisburg, Ohio obituaries next.  So the progress on the data entry is good.  I still have quite a bit to get scanned, some land deeds & maps need to be scanned & linked.  Those will wait, I'm working on my laptop down in the dining room so I can enjoy the birds & flower gardens outside the windows & patio doors.

So progress is being made.  With July being the hottest in Michigan's history, I guess its been a great time for data entry!  Glad something good came out of all this heat!   How about you?  How is your progress on your projects??

Happy Researching!

Lists, Lists & More Lists

Are you a list maker?  I am! I have to do lists for everything.  Shopping, future projects, places I need to go, things I need to do.  Being a genealogist it seems I'm always working on a list of some sort.

This week I've been working on my lists for upcoming trips.  We're not doing trips around the world or anything but you must admit that being prepared aka having a good list is the foundation for a successful research trip.

Tomorrow we are headed out to Miamisburg, Ohio to do some research on my Gebhart & Early families that lived in that area.  So I've got an extensive list of people who need obits.  While I am pulling newspapers to search & copy, Mark will be going thru the books looking for mention of them there.

Other lists that are in progress include one for next Tuesday's trip to Fort Wayne and then for our vacation trip I'm working on lists for Pennsylvania (Dauphin, Berks, Lancaster & Schuylkill Counties) and the North Carolina State library & the Archives there as well.  Also hoping to do some work in West Virginia and Ohio along the way.

Fortunately I don't need them all today.  Most are an ongoing thing in my genealogy software, Legacy.  When I do an obit list I take them out of the software and put them on an excel spreadsheet so they are in chronological order, making two copies, one for me and one for the librarian or Mark, depending on who is pulling the films for me.  Otherwise I use them straight from Legacy.  I print them, bind them in one of my research notebooks and then we are good to go! You can check out the research notebook & obit list by clicking on the link and scrolling down.  Both are there within a few days of each other.

Lists for research trips - they're a good thing!  How do you arrange your lists for your trips?  Do you use them the way your software presents them or customize them for yourself?  I'd like to hear how you do your lists.

Lost In Time - Unidentified Photo's -

All the photo's you see here are lost in time.  They are unidentified.  They came from an album belonging to either my grandfather, Raymond Phillips or his wife, Pauline Kreitzer Phillips.  Ray was raised in Springboro and then as a teenager later moved with his family to Miamisburg, Montgomery County.  Pauline was born and raised in Germantown, Montgomery County, Ohio.  Both were employed at one time at the Fridgidair plant near Dayton.

If you can identify anyone in these photo's I'd love to hear from you.  So far I must admit the success rate of this project has not been high, with only one of the photo's I posted being identified.  Is it possible  that this is YOUR ANCESTOR?

Lost In Time Friday

Its time for another "Lost In Time" blog. Remember that clicking on the image will open it in a larger window and using your browsers back arrow will return you to this blog.

These photo's are probably of people who lived in and about Miamisburg, Germantown & possibly Springboro. My grandparents, Raymond Phillips & his wife, Pauline Kreitzer Phillips were the owners of this album so I can only surmise that possibly these folks were friends?

If you see someone here that you recognize please contact me by either leaving on comment on the blog or by emailing me at KarenATmiprofgenieDOTcom. Thanks!
