Civil War hero, Union Army colonel, who lead troops at
Murfreesboro, Shiloh, Franklin and Nashville. Was also with Sherman during the
Atlanta campaign. Later became Allen County Sheriff and served as Mayor of Fort
Wayne for 6 terms. Recognized for many municipal accomplishments and for having
left $133,000 remaining in the city's treasury at the time of his
retirement.
