Travel Tuesday - Brethren Heritage Center, Brookville, Ohio

On Saturday I was awakened by the words, "hey sleepyhead - wanna go to Brookville?" My friend Gale over at the Brethren Heritage Center had written me stating that there were quite a few Boomershine obituaries at the center and that I should come and visit.

Well, anyone who knows me knows that an opportunity to go research is very rarely passed by.  So showers were taken, clothes were chosen, briefcase was grabbed and off we went!

The Brethren Research Center, located at 428 Wolf Creek Street, Brookville, Ohio is a treasure trove of Brethren information.  With indexes for the Brethren newspapers - The Gospel Messenger & many more Brethren publications - the limitations on the things you can find is limitless.  The staff there - know their Brethren history & resources - and are more than happy to make their knowledge yours.

They also have a book store for both new & used books, a mini museum of artifacts having to do with the Brethren faith & daily life, as well as many books & publications for area's surrounding Brookville.

The "library" is located in the midst of a small shopping center, on the lower level.  Don't be deceived when you first view the entry from the parking lot - there's more there than meets the eye.  The hours are Monday, Wednesday & Saturday from 10-4.

If you have Brethren in your family history especially in the area's of Montgomery, Preble & Darke County - you'll surely want to make time to visit with Gale at the Brethren Heritage Center in Brookville.  You'll be glad you did!

Happy Researching!
Karen
