Tombstone Tuesday

Elmira Melzine Kessler Boomershine
Elmira Melzine Kessler was born near Winfold, Indiana, on May 25, 1864.  She was the daughter of Levi and Hannah Kessler.  While still a young child the family moved to West Manchester, Ohio.  On Sept. 5, 1889, she was united in marriage with William Boomershine of near Farmersville.  To this union eight children were born, namely: Flora, Perry, Bert, Hannah, Harry, Orpha, Hazel and Lewis.
Eighteen years ago the family moved to a farm west of Carlisle where the husband and father passed away five years ago.  For a short time Mother Boomershine made her home with her daughter, Hazel, at Germantown, later coming back to the old home where the son, Lewis, lived and where she has stayed until Nov. 7th, when she passed away suddenly, during the night.  The deceased leaves besides her eight children, twenty grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, also two brothers, Edwin and John Kessler, and three sisters, Jennie Miller of Eldorado, Stella Kessler and Lillie McGriff of Eaton.  Also a large circle of friends who will sadly miss her.

                                DEATH OF WELL KNOWN MAN

William F. Boomershine, 72, died early Saturday morning at his home, 4 miles south of Germantown, on what is known as the old Anderson farm.  He had been ill only a few days.  Surviving him are his wife, four sons, Perry, Bert, Harry and Lewis, all of this vicinity, four daughters, Mrs. Geo. Kreitzer, Mrs. Hiram Smith, Mrs. Ralph Brandenburg of Germantown and Mrs Guy McCoy of Dayton; 18 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held from the home at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon and burial was made in the Germantown Cemetery.

**William Boomershine actually had two different obits, the one trannscribed above, which I have no source for at all, and the one with the photo which was sent to me by a Boomershine researcher early in my research journey.  This one is from Farmersville News, Thursday, 14 JAN 1932, pg 8.

William & Elmira are my maternal great great grandparents.

Relatively Speaking Monday

As many of you may know the Wild Ones have found several "family" ties in our years of researching together. We've found relationships between the WO's themselves - Carol & I, Anne & Carol, Anne & Mark (my husband) and a step tie between Diane & my husband Mark... there are more I am sure, but none of us expected as much when this all started.
One of those relationships is between myself and Carol, who does Reflections From The Fence .
Our common link is to Michael Kesler & his wife, Anna Maria. Carol's ancestor Henry (ca1750-1812) is brother to my Jacob (1757-1843). Jacob was a Revolutionary War soldier. Jacob was born supposedly in Pennyslvania although I have seen other sources that say Virginia. He was married to Maria Katherina Hauser (1748-1823). I descend thru their son, Johan Jacob and his wife Catherine.

(Pg.9 of Jacob's Rev. War Pension papers)
In my research I've encountered quite a few people, a couple at church, one or two when speaking that are "cousins", usually not what I would call close but still related on any one of several lines in my family tree. My husband Mark on the other hand, seems to be related to half the world as we know it because of his ties to the Ligon family.

It really is a small world isn't it?

Happy Researching!
