The last week has just flown by. Friday I put my mom on a flight back home, so now its just me and this office. I've accomplished a lot over the past six months. I have started pulling stuff from my file cabinets and scanning the items there that I didn't have previously scanned. I've got a small box that I've placed everything in for easier keeping up with it all.
Its really nice having all this stuff on the computer, scanned, cropped, named and still linking, but oh what progress I've made!
I'm going to be spending a week in Ft Wayne at the library in May and I want it all complete by then. My to do list is growing as I add the documents and I see things I am missing.
Although Legacy does have to do lists, I've decided to keep all my to do lists in Evernote. For now that seems like a really good choice. I'm able to record my findings there, with the "todo" item being in black and my findings in color. So far that has worked out very well.
Hard to believe but my biggest challenge is keeping up the blog. Wish me luck, I get so caught up in the projects at hand that I forget to put the blogs up.
What's on tap for you this week??

Monday Musings
It's been a crazy few weeks here hence the lack of blogs. Thanks for your patience. I've redone my email accounts, opened some new, got rid of some old, but the contact information here stayed the same. Thankfully I've got a very techy son who saves my backside when I get in over my head on computer stuff.
We've added another branch to our family tree. Jacob Michael Luotonen weighed in at 8 pounds 2 ounces when he joined us on Saturday morning, September 28th, 2013. He's adorable, looks just like his awesome mom! Needless to say grandma can't stop smiling at the thought. Holding him brings back so many memories of the three older grandsons when they were that size and of course our two kids when they were just infants. Congrats to our daughter, Amanda and her husband, David on a job well done!
The scanning and re-organization project is ongoing. I think I finally have every loose paper from my summer research trips scanned to my flash/thumb drives. Now the fun begins as I start to transcribe and clean up those images to link in my data base.
Speaking of databases, I've joined the Heredis for Mac beta test that is going on. So far things look great, but my "test" file still has some issues I'm not thrilled with. Heredis is a European Genealogy software that has recently come on to the US genealogy software scene. It has great potential and I'm enjoying the experience thus far.
Mom has arrived from Florida for a few months. Its always great having her here to enjoy the holidays with us. The grandsons think she's awesome and since she's the shortest one in the family at only 5'1 the oldest grandson thinks she's great - he's finally taller than one of the adults!
It's Monday, time to get busy! How about you? What have you been working on?
Happy Researching!

Be Careful What You Wish For....
As I wrote at the beginning of this year, I always have many projects in process. Always seem to be something that needs typed, or something that needs to be typed or scanned. I could never complain about being bored.
Last Thursday we left Michigan and drove two days to take my mom back to Florida. I thought finally I would go and come back with nothing to add to the ever present pile. Boy was I ever wrong!
Before I left to come home she presented me with two recipe boxes of my grandmother's, both full of her handwritten recipes. I always said I wanted to get those and scan them.
Guess what? Looks like I got my wish.... Better be careful what I wish for in the future!

Scanner Meltdown
Today is the first full day since the return from our vacation that I am actually going to be home all alone. To some people this may sound boring and possibly crazy - but ME? I'm looking forward to it.
I brought home all these obits and death certificates from our vacation research trip - and now I can finally seriously sit here at my desk and make some major inroads into getting the information into my computer file.
The scanner is on & warming up, the stacks of obits etc are piled neatly awaiting their turn on the scanner. What awesome information will these papers yeild? Children's names? Residences? Perhaps a maiden name I've yet to discover?
Although the weather man is promising yet another beautiful day here in the metro Detroit area, I doubt seriously I will pay much attention or that you will find me out on the patio. I've been waiting for this day for quite some time.
Yep, home body me, loves to go, but loves to come back to my home & my life. Its time to see... is it possible to scan so much my scanner goes into a melt down? Stay tuned to tomorrow's episode to see.... Oh, if you see smoke coming from my office window, its not the house on fire its the scanner...
Happy researching!
