Spent the weekend on identifying some Ligon's I found on the Georgia death records over at Family Search. I can't say it was easy - but I do love a good challenge.
Out of the eight I started with I have only one I still can't identify and add to my Ligon data base. Not bad for a weekend's work!
I've been working on re-organizing, cleaning, and rethinking how I do some things. I'm also STILL working on all the images I had scanned over the past year. I'm about half way thru, cropping, naming and linking them in my data base as I go.
This doesn't include the several hundred scanned recipes that I am also typing into my cookbook software, where I have well over 100,000 recipes already typed in. I've been collecting recipes for well over 30 years. The newest have images attached as I've found them. Makes for a nice searchable file.
I inherited a new desk (few months ago) from my daughter. It was originally my late father in law's desk so its been around a while. But its HUGE. Lots of room, several drawers and did I say tons of desk top space. So I have room for my dual monitors and more! LOVE IT! One of the best things is the large "file" drawer on the right bottom. I've turned that into my space for the copies or papers & folders I am currently working on. As I am going thru folders in my file cabinet and I find things I want to focus on or look at again, I place them there and I can stay focused without having tons of stuff laying all over my desk. Important!
It's tax time so of course its been busy with tax clients coming & going alot! We've also got a new grandson (#5), Joshua Mark Luotonen who was born January 29th. What a cutie!
Time to get busy - the daily chores are done, time to get focused and get some stuff done.
What challenges are you working on in your genealogy??
Happy Researching!

Monday Musings
It was a busy weekend here. With the tax clients in and out, the son in town from Texas, the daughter over to help out with the tax business it seems we had a never ending supply of visitors to the house. Toss in the three grandsons and you've got noise, laughter and lots of fun.
Even with all that going on I still managed to work on my cemetery project. I've still been gathering marriage records from my Ohio lines. Going back thru my files and locating sources, dates and sometimes even the places. But now I've added to the mix by searching cemetery records. Over the years I've managed to accumulate lots of cemetery readings for the cemeteries in the area's where my ancestors lived. Combine what I have with on line cemetery readings & images and it makes for a very productive weekend. One cemetery in Farmersville, Ohio, I did manage to get thru the first page, funny, but out of all the people on that page only four (4), were NOT in my data base. Small community and I think I was related to almost the entire community.
Today and tomorrow I'll be here working more on that project while I let the painter work his magic in the kitchen & breakfast area downstairs. So far it just looks like a tornado went thru there, so I'm hoping by the end of the day today it will start looking like the kitchen I'd like spend some time in.
How about you? What did you work on this weekend?

Monday Musings
Its been a genealogy kind of weekend. Its always busy here at the Krugman castle (its what we call it)... with the kids, the dog, the cat, the tax clients, three grandsons, daughter & son in law, Son & partner and a house guest how can it NOT be busy? But that's okay, life is good and we are blessed.
Our houseguest is our genealogy friend Michael, who drove up from Dayton to share some goodies he found with me. A neighbor of his was about to throw away several large boxes of notebooks. She asked Michael if he would like them. She was an avid genealogist at some time, as the boxes were full of notebooks. In the notebooks were pages and pages of family group sheets & obituaries. She had evidently collected all this stuff over a period of 30-40 years. Also in one of the boxes Michael brought with him was a photo album full of very old photo's, some of them identified. A few were the tinytype variety. I was flabbergasted that she was willing to put these things to the curb.
So between the tax clients, the grandsons, the son moving out and everything else going on, Michael and I have been going thru some of these notebooks. I think the greatest find so far was in the photo album. We found a photo of Jonathan Bolender. The cool thing is Jonathan is my GGGG Uncle, the other cool thing is, Michael has had this same photograph in his file forever and had no idea who it was. This photo we found was identified as was the photo of his wife, Rebecca Durnbaugh.
So now Michael has the identity of two unknown photo's and I have two new photo's to add to Bolender file. I've found many things this weekend in those notebooks we've been going thru, but I think finding these two photo's were the best!
Research weekend with a friend - very good thing!

Research Trip!
Its here! Tax season is "officially" over, I say officially because even though uncle Sam's date has been met by the majority there are still those who filed extensions and will be requiring some help from Mark in the months to come!
Every year when tax season is "officially over" we take a break and run away. Usually on some research/play trip. After discussing our many options we've decided, or at least it appears, we've decided. Mark's still pondering over maps but it looks like its going to be .... drum rolll please! Pennsylvania for four days in a wonderful B & B, Living Springs Farm, for research in the surrounding counties, do a bit of shopping, and just enjoy the area. Then a mad dash over the weekend down to the North Carolina State Archives to do some work on one of my brick walls that came crashing down last week. More on that one later in another post. After a few days at the archives we'll wander back north and finish off our trip with some headstone photography and more relaxing in Holmes County, Ohio where hopefully I'll find some more awesome Amish baskets to add to my collection!
More details on the families we're going to be researching & prep for the trip to come so stay tuned!
Happy Reseaching!

**Thanks to my friend Michael Reck for sharing some of the Clip Art he has collected over the years with me! This one from his collection.
