I've been going over some of my lists - stuff that I need to focus on. I discussed my list making last week in my "Overwhelmed"series. So much I want to do and so little time to get it done. Seems like when you get one done you come up with another project another list that you just need to work on.
I was in Ft Wayne at the Allen County Public Library researching for a few days this past week. Can't say I broke down any major brick walls but I did find some things.
Today is Thanksgiving Day here in Canada. We are here while Mr. Brown Eyes is on a job assignment for Ford. In a very nice apartment here with very good wi-fi so the research and blogging can continue. Sure beats a hotel! Many of the comforts of home here, just on a smaller scale. Either way I'm just thankful that I have the opportunity to travel and be with him where ever it may be.
I'm planning on writing a few blog posts today, at least one focusing on how to make the lists with my genealogy software.
Happy Thanksgiving to my Canadian readers!

Travel Tuesday - A Week of Thankful
Travel Tuesday? Yep, for this week at least. The second day in my week of Thankful. I say Travel Tuesday becuase I am so thankful that my ancestors were brave enough (or wanted out bad enough) to take the chance, get on a boat and endure all sorts of hardships in order to start a new life here in the United States.
Lets face it, we all have our comfort zones - our warm comfy home, food on the table, our computers, smart phones, cars etc. We have our routines. But to put all that aside, leave behind family, routines - all things familiar and comfortable to climb on a ship for weeks at sea, months of unknown --- that just wouldn't work for me.
Hate to say it but I seriously wonder if I had to make the sacrifices that my ancestors made to get to this country, I really doubt my descendants would be in this country. I just don't know that I could do it. So to me, having these men & women, who gave up the comfort of their homes, their families, their known to totally give it all up, walk away to come here and start over, they are my hero's. I'm so thankful for them and the things they sacrificed to make it possible for me & my descendants to be here in the USA.

Military Monday - A Week of Thankful
I decided for this week to do my regular daily posts but due to the fact that this week is Thanksgiving I thought I'd add a twist. A week of thankful. We have so much to be thankful for, so I thought I'd put a genealogical spin on my week of thankful.
With today being Military Monday, I am thankful that I had ancestors who fought. Luckily most of them did return home after they fought, for that I am very thankful. I appreciate all of our country's Veterans, but most specially for the ones in my family tree that fought. Thankful that they had what it took to stand up for what they thought was right - from Jacob Kesler & Dennis Grady in the Revolutionary War, right down to our present day military fighting men - cousins Andrew Layton, Chris Radley & Jason Radley, and the many men in between - father, uncles, grandfather's and right on back.
Regardless of the rank or the battle they are all apart of my history and for that I am very thankful.

The Day After...
Yeah I know. Alot of people call today, the day after Thanksgiving, Black Friday. I guess I'm different, I see the potential here that alot of people won't. First of all, I don't have to be out shopping, I'm pretty much done with that. Second of all, while all of you are out shopping, fighting crowds, growling about parking spaces, I'll be here, warm & cozy, probably with my cup of peppermint tea, surfing ancestry and working on my family history! Later we'll break out the turkey day leftovers.
So for today, I'm going to leave the blogging to the die-hard bloggers, and I'm going to enjoy my day, surfing ancestry and the other sites I use; hanging out with the grandkids & husband! After all isn't that what the holidays are all about - families?? I'll be back blogging about my finds from today on Monday.
Be sure to take some time out during your busy holiday season for yourself!
Happy Researching!

Thanksgiving 2010 - A Day of Counting Blessings
Happy Thanksgiving 2010!
While our family will be enjoying turkey this Thanksgiving, we try not to forget the reason for the day. For us, the holidays is all about our family. Some of the things we are thankful for this year --
-- our children & grandchildren are all healthy. Sure we all have minor colds now and then but we really have no major illness to contend with. We all have jobs, health care and for the most part are happy with jobs we have. We all have a roof over our head, the heat is on and we have food on our tables.
We aren't rich in the financial sense of the word, but we have enough that we are happy.
Is there anything else that matters?
From our house to yours - Happy Thanksgiving 2010!

Thanksgiving...

The turkeys are all running for cover - the grocery stores are all packed and the mailbox is full of ads for shopping the day after Thanksgiving! Can you believe its ALREADY Thanksgiving?
Can't speak for everyone reading my blog today but it just seems natural to me to especially counting our blessings this year.
- 3 healthy active grandsons
- my mom, age 72 is still healthy and enjoying her life
- Mark still has a job at Ford despite all the job cuts at Ford earlier this year
- Both of the kids are still employed & healthy
- Everyone in the family has a roof over their heads & the heat is on
- No breast cancer!
- Life is good, we are blessed and for that we are especially thankful!
My Thanksgiving wish for each of you reading this blog is peace & happiness for you & yours this Thanksgiving holiday. I won't be blogging tomorrow - I plan on spending the day enjoying the day with my family. After all isn't family one of life's greatest blessings? After all we do research FAMILY history!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
